IHNA acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander scholarships
IHNA welcomes students from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to apply for all our courses. IHNA offers a scholarship for Indigenous health workers to meet the costs of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for the Certificate IV Indigenous Health Worker program in order to provide a pathway to the Diploma of Nursing and on to registration as an Enrolled Nurse in Australia.
IHNA is also a strong supporter and is actively engaged in activities during NAIDOC, a week-long series of events and activities that recognise Indigenous Australians and the important role and contribution they make to Australia.
IHNA encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to apply.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education and Support Committee
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Education and Support Committee is established as a standing committee of the Academic Board established under the Academic Board Terms of Reference.
Institute of Health and Nursing Australia (IHNA) is committed to self-determination by empowering, supporting and creating partnerships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, staff and their communities that ensure a culturally rich, relevant and engaged learning experience which embeds Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples heritage and culture. The Committee has been formed to institutionalise the practice through a formal committee set up where the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander education and support system will remain integral in IHNA’s core business on education and training.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ Education and Support Policy
The purpose of this policy is to set out guidelines for ensuring, providing and promoting non- discriminatory, inclusive practices and processes to provide equal opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
IHNA: Innovate Reconciliation (Connecting Together) Action Plan of (Nov 2021 – Nov 2023)
The Institute of Health & Nursing Australia (IHNA) wishes to work with and engage within our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to advocate with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities in a culturally sensitive and safe way. As IHNA is a training organisation, we will develop partnerships with our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities as well as organisations that would share our common goal to work collaboratively in response to being more culturally safe and aware which is part of APHRA’s health professionals roles and responsibilities to be culturally safe. These same principles are embedded in the charter of education in relation to the teaching and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge.

IHNA believes in collaborating with different communities and organisations to work towards enhancing lives for all. Hence, IHNA is a proud member of some of the most proactive organisations that support Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander communities.

Events and Campaigns

IHNA also supports and has pledged as a member for national campaigns such as Close the Gap , Family Maters and “Racism. It Stops with me”.
