Imagine this situation: after a long and exhausting job search, you have landed an interview for a position that sounds like your dream job. The role, the conditions, and the pay are everything you have ever wanted.
The morning of the interview, you put on your best outfit and walk out the door full of confidence.
There is only one problem, however—you have left your mobile phone at home. Normally, finding your way to the interview would be as easy as entering the address of your potential employer into Google Maps and following the directions. Today, without your phone, however, you scan the streets as you drive, frantically searching for your destination. You stop at a petrol station to ask for directions, but the uninterested attendant offers no help at all.
You finally arrive at your interview, fifteen minutes late. The possibility of landing your dream job has vanished into thin air.
This situation might sound unrealistic. Surely no one would be so careless about their future?
In fact, situations very similar to this happen all the time. I’m not talking about people leaving their house without their phones—no one does that!
The mistake that I am talking about is people trying to get to their career destination without the ‘map’ of top-quality professional advice that is tailored to their particular needs. People without a map decide to do a course just because their friends are doing it.
