This HLTWHS005 – Conduct Manual Tasks Safely is for individuals working in various capacities in health care industry who require the skills and knowledge to recognise potentially hazardous manual tasks, and then to prepare for and complete those tasks in a safe manner.

This unit can be used as an “upskilling” product for those with existing qualifications. For those undertaking a qualification, a very large number of qualifications will allow this unit to be included as part of their packaging rules. This unit can also be used as standalone training for those currently in the workforce without a qualification, however, it should be trained in the context of the learner’s job role.

Course Overview

  • Online theory with face to face simulation workshop
  • The theory component is provided through supervised structured online mode delivery. It will be delivered and assessed over 30 hours which will include 12 online theory, as per the session plan, 12 hours of simulation training and 6 hours of self-paced structured e-learning. Table 1 outlines the number of hours for theory, Self – paced Structured-E learning tasks, simulation hours, for each unit of competency.
  • Besides the above structured learning, students are advised that they will be required to do approximate 4 hours of unstructured learning.
  • IHNA considered nominal hour guidelines (Victorian Purchasing Guide and Western Australian Nominal Hours Guide) when confirming the course duration. This duration was chosen to enable students to achieve the learning outcomes.
